We are a non-profit Foundation whose mission is to establish, promote, maintain and support, a Memorial Garden; to provide help, comfort, and a Place of Rememberance; for parents, family, and friends coping with the loss of a child.
The Medicine Wheel Garden (MWG), is located in Bastrop, Texas. The Garden is featured at the center of the Restoration Ranch. By getting our hands in the dirt, planting a seed, and watching it grow: we focus on living day by day, simply. The results are a thriving, fragrant, vibrant garden; a Living Memorial, on sacred ground. Our grief is buried in the earth, watered by bitter tears; and yet, our Remembrance springs forth with new life: Flowers dancing in the wind. Our work at The Garden is seperate from, but also supplemental to the Restoration Ranch, and focuses on all people grieving a lost child.
Restoration Ranch provides a safe-haven for equine learning and development that nurtures the well-being of veteran families through the gift of the horse. The ranch is a place where veterans, horses, and the land, each contribute to the health and well being of the others. It provides access to a rural way of life that embraces holistic health, sustainable agriculture, and community-building programs, aimed at restoring the physical vitality, emotional, and spiritual health of all involved.
We maintain the Medicine Wheel Garden, and plant new bouquets in an ongoing, seasonal basis. Our goal is to have year round floral blooms. We also conduct general grounds maintennance to keep the overall site looking great, at all times.
We will continue working to complete the construction of the site memorial. To do this, we need both funding, and volunteers; and, we know the final results are going to be simply amazing!
We have an opportunity to adopt our own horse to interact with our Friends of the Garden. With this addition, our guests will be exposed to the special healing energies that can result from a hands-on, Human-Horse bonding relationship. . . Building Trust.
We need volunteers to assist in the Garden. There are many ways to elevate the healing energies at the site. It is our belief, that by participation, our guests blend-in their own special and unique energies. Spiritual Compost. And, by doing so, are enabled to recieve the inner vitality of our Living Memorial Garden.
We are planning a garden concert series on the lawn surrounding the Restoration Ranch Memorial Pavillion.
Please stay tuned. . .
Please come for a picnic under the Wise ol' Live-Oak GrandMother Tree. Find peace and comfort in our garden! When there is nothing you can say, and nothing you can do, and you are overwhelmed by loss; it is ok. We understand. Just come and sit a spell in our garden. That is exactly why we are here! The Medicine Wheel Garden is based on the Native American ideas of the four cardinal directions, as well as the directions of Earth and Sky. Each direction is linked with a color, as well as other totems, such as spirit animals. The power source is at the center of Liana's Memorial Garden.
This is Liana's favorite flower! We are planting Sunflowers everywhere! All sizes, and colors. After the growing season, we harvest the seeds, and distribute many of them to Friends of the Garden. By doing so, we spread the vitality of the garden; outwards, in all directions. 2023 Calender? Maybe.
Part of developing a sustainable garden, is being water-wise. To further this goal we are selecting a number of Texas Native perenials, and annuals. Most of them do not require intensive watering, and many varieties bloom throughout the year. We prioritize space for our Texas Native varieties.
In addition to the fragrant flowering species, we think it is important to grow our own food. Part of the community-building aspect of the garden, is to produce edible plants and herbs, and to demonstrate how to care, harvest, and preserve them; with regenerative organic gardening.
Knowing your land: being able to walk through the woods and forage Mother Nature's treasures, is mostly a lost science. As we grow, and learn, we want to pass on what we find. We create tinctures, salves, and infusions. For those interested, we will teach workshops on this subject.
The Horse is a powerful spirit animal. We find them to be a great well of empathy. We see them as our friends. The Horses at the ranch are "retired" from being beasts of burdon. Bonding with a horse is an excercise in trust building. These interactions are bi-directional, and truly transformational.
